Linked record fields by default have a dropdown that shows all existing records. If you would like to ask a client to fill up a form, normally you wouldn’t want them to see all your other clients. Instead of selecting a record from a list, ideally, you would just like them to type in their name (or email, phone, etc) and have their record get auto-linked when the form is submitted. This is exactly what this feature does when it’s enabled in miniExtensions Form.
The way this works is by looking up the linked table to see if the entered data matches any existing record and links it automatically. Otherwise, if no match is found, a new linked record will get created.
Demo
Here’s an example of a form that allows you to link to an existing record without showing the full list of all other records. Check out the result in the view blow.
1. URL
2. Embed on your site
The form can be both shared as a URL or embedded in your website.
Use Cases
This extension can be useful in a lot of scenarios. You can use it to:
- Prevent clients from seeing each other info
- Protect your customers privacy
If you click on the sample view below, you’ll see the table that’s used for the demo above.
