Extract Text From Word Files reads text from DOCX attachments and saves it as plain text in Airtable. Use it to make document content available for search, review, or a separate analysis workflow.
What you can do
- Process DOCX files in a selected attachment field.
- Combine main-document text from multiple files on a record.
- Store the result in a text field with separators between documents.
Use cases and examples
A knowledge collection can retain original DOCX reports alongside extracted text. Reviewers can search the text without opening every document, then consult the original when formatting or context matters.
- Invoices and legal documents: Extract text from supported Word invoice or legal-document attachments so it can be reviewed in Airtable fields.
- Report research: Make the text in supported Word reports available for searching or further processing.
- Applicant review: Extract text from Word resumes or applications for a review workflow. Text in embedded scans needs a separate OCR solution.
How to get started
Select the source attachment field and output text field, and test representative DOCX documents. Inspect paragraph breaks, extracted content, and any error messages before running a larger selection.
Good to know
DOCX text extraction is supported; older .doc files and OCR are not. Formatting is converted to plain text.
